Getting to a point of remembering dreams takes time...as you know. You have to train yourself to remember. One thing to assist is recording what little bits you do remember before you even get out of bed. Now I used to keep a dream journal next to my bed, that would end up getting a hit or miss sort of use. But it is difficult to remember a dream that woke you in the night, and who wants to turn on the light and attempt to remember anything that might keep you awake longer? Right? I thought about putting a recorder next to the bed... then I remembered a friend of mine told me about how she uses her phone to text herself or dictate her dream.... it has its own light. It’s usually right next to me. With practice you can get used to recording your dreams, and the more you attempt to remember the more you actually do remember. You might think about a mugwort tea or dream pillow. Another thing I did was set two alarms. One for 30 min before I wanted to wake and one for when I did need to wake. This way, my dream state was easier to slip into after I turned off the first alarm, or if I had already dreamt I would have time to record it. And yes I do remember telling you the “go with the flow” phrase too. I understand not wanting to feel like you aren’t in control. But going with the flow is not only about just letting go. When river rafting, you are in control of the raft, and read the river to know where to make your turns where they will assist you. Ultimately the river wins in an argument, but you do have the ability to plan your route and accept the rapids where they pop up to surprise you.

Yes, writing down or recording your dream helps to remember. Even if you only remember pieces at first.
Another trick I learned from Robert Moss is to look at your hand. I rub my right hand and feel the energy in it before I go to bed. Then I stare at it front and back. Then you say to yourself. When I see my hand in my dream, I will remember my dream. It's kind of a cue. It also took some practice, but pretty soon, I was seeing my hand right before I woke up and remembered the full dream.

Hi Boudika! I know I'm 10 months behind this post, but your title pulled me in. One thing I'd like to comment on is your statement, "I've always hated the idea of destiny. It makes me feel out of control. I hate not having control. I guess I'm a brat." There's a lot to comment on in regards to these few sentences. First, I want to quote from Scott Cunningham's book Wicca: A Guide For The Solitary Practitioner. "Most Wiccans don't believe in predestination...We know that we're free souls with full control and responsibility of our lives. We can't point at an image of an evil god, such as Satan, and blame it for our faults and weaknesses. We can't blame fate. Every second of each day we're creating our futures, shaping the courses of our lives. Once a Wiccan takes full responsibility for all that she or he has done (in this life and past ones) and determines that future actions will be in accord with higher ideals and goals, magic will blossom and life will be a joy." So there's that. You don't have to subscribe to the idea of destiny because Wicca is about owning your own power and your own life. Second, I am going to point out a glaring contradiction that you may or may not be aware of, and please do not take offense. You stated, "I've always had a difficult time trusting doing divination for myself. I'm always second guessing what I'm interpreting, so I prefer to rely on what other people have to say about it." Please allow me to call to your remembrance the first goal of a witch; KNOW THYSELF. Before I launch into a long diatribe, I want to acknowledge that you may have already worked on these things and moved past these hiccups. From my perspective, it seems like you do not trust yourself to properly interpret your readings; but who better to interpret your readings than yourself? Who knows you better than yourself? Who knows your circumstances and relationships in your life better than yourself? I do think there is value in bringing others in for readings from time to time. Having outsiders read for you can facilitate bringing to our awareness things that are not obvious by disrupting our normal, daily thought patterns; but for someone like yourself who wishes to reclaim their own power, relying on them for frequent readings is exactly that, relying on them, i.e. giving your power over to another. There may be some things you need to do to get to the heart of your insecurities; maybe some shadow work. You may need to review your life and see what things come up that cause you to second guess your ability to trust yourself. I would also recommend doing some introspective work to consider what you hope to create of your life in pursuing the Craft. What do you hope your studies and efforts will eventually culminate into? Look back at your past, acknowledge it, work through it, and work towards gaining a clear vision of where you're going. As far as LOKI, the trickster... I love his character in Marvel movies but I'm not sure I would be apt to receive life directing messages from him.
