If you ask this question to a dozen witches you will get a dozen answers. It will be different for everyone. When I first start working with a new deity I start with a deity focus sheet. Honestly, these focus sheets are excellent to start to get to know a god or goddess.

Once I get a bit of the research part done and all the reading I will meditate on connecting to that goddess. Sometimes I will get vivid meditations with all my senses engaged and it will seem like an acutal meeting. Othertimes I will get phantom sensations or intuitive thoughts.

I am of the opinion, that there is no wrong way to reach out and connect. I like doing the research first as it gives me a starting poing on knowing some of their history and the things they like. I've put in an effort to learn of them and that respect is often something that will increase the chances that I will be successful.
