About Mabon:

Mabon is a time of balance, where light and dark are in perfect harmony with equal amounts of day and night. This is the season to honor the harvest and the gifts of the Earth. To celebrate Mabon, consider decorating your altar with autumn's rich colors— yellows, oranges, reds, and browns. A tablecloth or altar cloth that symbolizes the harvest season will set the tone beautifully. If you’re lucky enough to have access to some brightly colored fallen leaves, sprinkle them around your space for an added touch of nature’s splendor. Candles in deep, warm hues like reds, gold, and other autumn shades are perfect. On your altar, you can also place harvest symbols, such as corn, wheat sheaves, squash, or root vegetables. If you have any agricultural tools like small scythes, sickles, or baskets, they can add a unique, earthy energy to your space. Remember, the equinoxes represent balance—so consider including items like a small set of scales, a yin-yang symbol, or a pair of candles, one white and one black, to embody this theme.

Supplies, Preparation and Ritual Information:

Ritual Supplies:
🍂 Smudge stick (sage, Palo Santo wood, or a frankincense incense stick).
🍂 5 vessels to hold the liquid. Bowl, shot glass, a ramekin?
🍂 Grape juice, wine, cider, water, beer or ale.

Optional for Your Altar:
If you’d like, you can add some crystals to your altar that are known to support balance and focus. Great options include tiger eye, sodalite, amazonite, smoky quartz, hematite, blue sapphire, zoisite, bloodstone, calcite, amethyst, carnelian, moonstone, larimar, and jade. Each of these stones has its own unique energy that can help you restore balance and harmonize your energetic field during this time.

Once your altar is set up, it’s a good idea to take a shower or bath for purification before the ritual. Afterward, slip into your ritual robe or any attire you prefer for sacred work—consider wearing colors that resonate with Mabon, like warm and earthy harvest tones. And don’t forget to put on any magickal jewelry or power objects you have; they can help amplify your intentions and connect you more deeply to the energy of the ritual.

Tala will cast the circle and set up the altar on behalf of all of us. So, if you find setting up your own ritual space at home challenging, inconvenient, or unsafe, don’t worry—just being present and connected is enough.

This ritual is centered on simple gratitude and connecting deeply with both the divine and nature through offerings. We’ll be giving offerings in the form of libations, a practice as old as humanity itself, tracing back to ancient times when people would pour out drinks to honor the gods. This simple act can help us attune to the rhythm of the Autumn Equinox, that transitional period when the hard work of harvest is wrapping up, and the Earth prepares for the quiet of winter. When you allow yourself to attune to this energy, you start noticing the subtle signs of change around you—like the gathering of crows in a neighbor’s yard or those extra moments of darkness each day.

For the ritual, a libation can be as small as a few drops or as generous as a full glass of liquid, such as wine, juice, or even water. A finger of liquid for each pour is enough for this ritual. And remember, if you have any left at the end, it’s completely okay to consume it—just be sure to do so responsibly.
