I had some health problems pop up this week; nothing serious, just annoying. It'd be nice to feel better. I also am waiting on job interview results for a job I really want, so fingers are crossed. I hope everyone is enjoying their week and is staying cool in this heat!

Today was a long long day. Some of you know I am a cataloger in an academic library for a community college. The aftermath of COVID is still affecting us. We don't yet have enough returning students to have a full crew back, so I am currently being asked to move part of my operations to a different campus where I can oversee a student employee (who we interviewed today and so will know NOTHING about how anything is done and I will need to train) Now... my first 12 years at this library I did nothing but circulation and overseeing student employees. We had a different computer system then, and I knew it backwards and forwards. I could do it in my sleep. (and did in my dreams often LOL) but we changed to a new system two years ago. I never really learned the circulation part of it, because I wasn't doing that anymore. I barely know how to get around a patron's account page, let alone how to take a payment or waive a fine, or even know if one is there! It is so different from the old style. So different. It makes my head hurt. My co-worker in the back room gave me some basic training on the system, and what it looked like. We spent about two hours on it. Showing me where everything was last week. We both thought the circulation coordinator was going to be showing me more... well she hasn't yet. she just assumed I would fall back into the saddle and run with it like I never stopped. I guess... idk. I was the first one in today, emptied the book drop and started checking things in remembering the little rules as i went, and got through 5 bags of books before about 150 books before they got there 2 hours later when the interviewee was to arrive. My other coworker was there, the one who had helped me, he was loading a computer program and putting hardware up so that I would be able to do my actual job there too, and not just the circulation job. Though they really don't want me to have the new books there. So a 4 day work week during summer 3 days is spent there at the other campus and 1 and my real campus doing my actual job of working with new books. If it wasn't for the project that I have to do there. Which will require me to touch and look at each of the 30,000 books in that library... well I might be thinking it isn't worth it. But I am assured it is a quiet library. I can get the new student employee to work with me on this project. I just have to figure out how to streamline the process so we don't make a mess of things. You can't change a barcode on something before you change it in the computer, or it loses its identity.. and you can't change a spine lable before the comptuer because then you might never find the right book it goes on! So much attention to detail. and if you have stumbled this far through my rambling mind... and over sharing, and random disjointed thoughts. you will know that I am so tired I can't spell, I can't organize a sentence I will be lucky if this is even readable.

I don't know if this post really goes here or not. I am tired. I am frustrated. my desk is too darn small. I don't have enough room for all the equipment I need let alone the space I need to work on the books! so I am hoping that they can find a desk for me. the room is trapezoidal shaped so an extra table to the side won't work. even my dog is looking at me like he's worried about me.

Thank you for the check in post The wildfire smoke has not been fun to breathe in, it's also making me sad and down about the state of the environment (also Cancer season is always a whammy for my emotions and amplifies everything lol). On the plus side I have been inside focusing on a lot of needed self-care which has helped immensely. I hope you and everyone have a lovely magical day

Starting to feel like a person again...getting over being sick and then having the worst panic attacks of my life. working on self-care and stuff like that. Finally feeling like myself, will be working on my assignments soon, but I figured I would check in with you all and let you know that I am getting better every day.. My cat keeps knocking things off my altar, not sure what he means by that, other than just being a cat and doing what cats do, he's a wonderful familiar but he's still a baby and thus is kind of a pain. :-) Baby is doing well, we just finished potty training!! YAY!! Thank you for this check in post, it seems like so many of us needed that. :-)

Unable to get inspired to write up the rituals attended or the nature of the lessons I currently have. It’s just the pain in my back that is distracting me, I’m sure.
