Around 2006, my wonderul husband considered a career change out of the IT sector. This was when he decided to train for Paramedic/Firefighter. He started with EMT, then Medic then Firefighter...I think was the order. When he was in fire academy, they do a "Live Burn" where they burn down a donated house to train the recruits and students.

At that time I used a Nikon D70 and the instructors let me cross the safety lines to get pictures, basically acting as the event photographer. I will NEVER forget the heat of being that close to a burning house or the terror of watching a loved one go into said burning building.

Here is one of the pictures that I took. I have a huge album of similar images from that day.

I don't remember exactly when this picture was taken. This is my late husband Walt, and our dog (at the time) Quarky. We went to Crescent City CA, and I believe it was Quarky's last trip to the coast which was about 2011... Since Walt is wearing his red bear paw cap. Both he and Quarky look a little thicker around the waist. She was one of the best dogs we had ever had. We could walk her without a leash in our trailer park, and she would hang out in our space without barking and running off after everything that was moving. I love this photo because it shows the relationship that Walt had developed with her. He is throwing a frisbee... which would later get lost in the water... and she blamed us for losing it!
